We have a clutch of Lineolated or Barred Parakeets that will be ready for their new homes in the next few weeks! We have been raising them by hand along with their parents, so they are very tame, healthy, and well socialized. We currently have a turquoise greywing, turquiose, cobalt, and mauve. They will be fully weaned and DNA sexed before they go home with you.
These adorable small parrots, also known as Linnies, are a little known but fantastic option if you are looking for a feathered companion.... (read more) Like other parakeet species, they are much smaller classic parrots like Amazons and African Grays, so they are much less expensive to maintain, and they live about 15 years on average, so they are a long term but not lifetime commitment. But linnies also have some of the features of large parrots that budgies and other parakeets such as being able to hold objects with their feet and talking. They’re also much quieter than other parrots. Mostly they make soft noises, and even their loudest calls are at a much lower decibel and aren’t as shrill. They aren’t likely to keep you up or bother your neighbors.
In terms of personality, linnies are on average calm birds with very low aggression who like to spend most of their time napping or quietly hanging out. They’re also very sweet, goofy, and entertaining. They prefer climbing around to flight and like hanging upside down and crouching horizontal to their perch. They come in a range of gorgeous colors and have beautiful dark eyes that let you know they’re listening.
