Jericho's primary caregiver passed away in January 2024. Jericho is a very sweet and smart bird. He needs a loving home and people who can provide the proper care & attention that all parrot species require. He is dog friendly and a people-watcher. He enjoys the excitement of a busy household, but he also likes some quiet downtime. He loves to be petted through his cage bars. (Ask him, "Do you want skritches?" and he will come over and put his head down.... (read more) ) Outside of his cage, he will lay on your lap or chest contentedly while you ruffle his head & neck feathers. Jericho enjoys watching television, and he will sway & dance to music. He prefers to be in a room with at least one person, but he also does well with some time alone in his cage. Outside of his cage, he will sit happily on his stand for awhile. He steps up onto your arm when asked ("step up" or "come here") and will go into his carrier by voice command ("kennel up"). He does not try to fly, but he prefers to walk on the floor or to be carried on someone's arm. Occasionally when the weather is nice, we will roll him in his cage outside onto the shaded patio, and he has enjoyed looking around and listening to the sounds. He has never been a plucker, and he seems to handle change and new people well. He says many words & phrases (hello, Jericho, I love you, pretty bird, I'm a good boy, wanna go out, whatcha doing, etc) and can make a variety of sounds (whistles, kissing noises, water sounds, laughs, barks like a small dog, imitates a house security alarm when he knows you are leaving, etc). Like his name suggests, he can be loud when he wants to be.
Jericho is 12 years old according to his leg band, and he has had a genetic blood test to confirm he is a male. He is in good health and has been having regular wellness visits with periodic nail trims by an avian veterinarian. Health records can be provided.
Jericho eats parrot pellets, parrot seed mix, fresh fruits like sliced apples & grapes, (but not bananas) and vegetables like raw broccoli & shredded carrots, and certain unsalted nuts like walnuts & almonds in the shell. He prefers cold filtered water, and he likes to share the plain edge of your toasted English muffin for breakfast.
Jericho comes with his cage, parrot food, perches, food/water cups, a free-standing perch on wheels with a tray, a ceiling-mounted metal ring perch, various parrot & dog toys, extra rope perches, spray bottle of feather conditioner, his carrier for transport & vet visits, and a Coway Airmega 400S air cleaner.
