Additional Comments
This is Meeko. His name can be changed, as he came to us without one and I don't believe he knows it ! His age is estimated to be around 2 years, likely more around 1 and a half.
Meeko is extremely gentle, nervous, and sweet. Meeko needs a home that is capable of going slow. Meeko is prone to nervousness if someone moves too quickly pick him up and definitely needs work to bond with his person. But Meeko will step up and is willing to be handled, so long as you move EXTREMELY slow and give him a lot of time to think.... (read more)
Meeko does not bite to say no, but he will run ! Or simply not step up. Meeko works best if you influence him with outside pressure– such as a stick he doesn't like, so he steps up from a location you want him to (outside of the cage.) He is prone to frights in the cage if 'chased' and should therefore only be offered a finger EXTREMELY slowly until he is willing to step up. In a new home setting, this may take a week or so before he's comfortable ! But he steps up reliably for all of us, even if he is still extremely nervous.
Meeko does not take treats outside of the cage. But he has recently started to understand kisses. He needs a home that can give him a LOT of undivided attention to help build up his confidence. Once he's there, I think he will be a dream bird.
Meeko is not a biter and is very gentle and able to be held and manhandled or tucked into a collar of a jacket or shirt, however to bond to a person he needs to go to a home WITHOUT other Green cheeks, or with only 1 female that is very tame, so he can learn from them. Given the option of other green cheeks or people, Meeko will always choose another green cheek ! He is still able to be handled even when he's with other birds, he definitely just needs way more attention to get him over that hump.
Meeko is on a healthy mix of Roudybush pellets and gets vegetable chop in the AM.
